Key takeaways from Oracle Open World Middle East 2020 in Dubai

Oracle Open World Middle East 2020, held from 14-15 January 2020 in Dubai, brought together Oracle partners and customers to share innovation, ideas and inspiration.

We’re bringing you highlights and key takeaways from Neos’ participation at this year’s OOW Middle East.

Day zero – Partner Executive Summit

Before Oracle Open World Middle East even started, Oracle partners came together for the Partner Executive Summit. As Oracle Platinum Partner, Neos representatives attended the summit, where high-level Oracle cloud strategy and go-to-market opportunities for partners were discussed. It was also an opportunity to hear other news in the Oracle PartnerNetwork program.

Day one – Oracle Multicloud Track

Day one of OOW in Dubai was marked by a half-day Multicloud track. It’s an exclusive event closed for the public where industry experts from Neos, Cloudhealth, Enimbos and Oracle discussed a wide range of topics.

Neos CEO Davorin Capan and Cloud Architect Dean Misic talked about the challenges of managing cost and complexity in Multicloud environments. They started by briefly presenting Neos and its areas of expertise.

The main part of the presentation revolved around three main challenges of cloud cost management:

  • User-driven consumption
When every employee with a corporate credit card can become a cloud user, managing the number of accounts is not easy.
  • Complex billing
How do you consolidate a cloud bill with 400 cloud accounts?
  • Continuous optimization
How to eliminate unused or not rightsized resources.

As Davorin and Dean pointed out, all these challenges can be resolved using FinOps methodology, which transcends mere cost savings towards better usage of resources.

Finally, they presented CloudVane, new Neos product developed based on FinOps principles. CloudVane enables businesses to see through the Multicloud, save money and improve infrastructure management.

Day two – Solution Keynote

During his Solution Keynote, Davorin Capan again presented the issue of Cost management challenges in Mullticloud deployments with OOW visitors.

Davorin spoke of the current state of mindset in IT and cost management challenges:

“We’re at the stage where using cloud means no investment into hardware but offers a wider set of possibilities and allows more time to focus on core business and innovation. However, cloud cost management has its challenges – user driven consumption, complex billing and continuous optimization. The FinOps methodology addresses these challenges as it brings together finance, IT and business.”

He finished with a short presentation of CloudVane:

“As CloudVane’s primary users, Cloud managers can manage optimal cost-benefit ratio, and Financial managers will get a business view on IT data.”

Busy at the booth

While Davorin and Dean managed public speaking, Neos team was hard at work at our booth, attending to one-on-one communication with visitors. CloudVane and Procurement Analytics Solution sparked the most interest.

Many visitors applied for CloudVane private beta after our team showed them the live product demo.

What’s next

With just enough time to recover from Dubai, the team will be travelling to London in February, to attend Oracle Open World Europe. To all that plan to attend as well – see you there!
