JetBrains AI quotas – keep development running without surprises

JetBrains has moved AI quotas to a currency-based credit model — 1 AI Credit = USD 1 — with monthly quotas tied to each plan, optional top-ups that last 12 months, and organisation-wide credit sharing for teams. For JetBrains licence holders this brings clearer billing, easier top-ups when work peaks, and enterprise controls such as BYOK and audit logs.

What changed in practice

  • Quotas now match plan price — your monthly AI credits are equal to the value of the plan, with AI Ultimate receiving a small bonus in some cases. For example, an AI Ultimate individual plan that costs USD 30 per month now includes USD 35 in AI Credits.
  • Consumption is billed in real currency — usage costs map to LLM rates, and you only pay for what you consume.
  • Top-ups are flexible — buy any amount of AI Credits, they expire after 12 months, and organisation top-ups can be shared or reallocated across users.
  • Enterprise features — Junie is included in enterprise plans, with BYOK, audit logs and on-prem options for regulated environments.

What this means for your teams

  • Predictability — credits make AI use visible in real currency, so you can factor AI into cloud spend forecasting and budgets.
  • Continuity — top-ups stop tool interruptions when a quota is exhausted, which helps continuous development and agent workflows.
  • Governance — shared credits, BYOK and audit logs let you control who can buy and use credits, and track AI activity for compliance.

Quick checklist — actions to take this week

1. Map usage — identify who uses JetBrains AI tools and how often.
2. Estimate burn — convert typical sessions into monthly credit use to estimate spend.
3. Choose allocation — decide between per-user quotas or a shared top-up pool.Ž
4. Add to budgets — include estimated AI credits in your cloud spend forecasts and thresholds.
5. Decide keys — plan BYOK if you need key control or data locality.
