IDC Big Data & Business Analytics Forum Review

The IDC Big Data Analytics & Business Conference, organized by IDC Adriatics, was held last week in Zagreb’s Hotel Antunović. NEOS has supported the conference as a gold sponsor. Big Data, analysis and utilization of large amounts of structured and unstructured data is still in its early stages in Croatia, although the benefits and improved quality of life are expected and measured in millions of kuna.

Given that the global Big Data market will reach $ 20 billion by 2016, Big Data storage systems and related IT services will be more expensive, faster and better than traditional ones, and therefore more desirable for suppliers and customers. The conference was opened by Mario Huber-Meir, the analyst from IDC office in Vienna, who defined a broad content of the term Big Data and showed some successful case studies and impressive numbers achieved so far.

Our Mario Mrljić presented to participants the key concepts related to the implementation of DW/BI systems at the group level of affiliated companies. Given that a large number of today’s corporations are organizationally structured out of many companies specialized for particular segments of business – it’s a logical necessity to report, measure, and manage efficiency at the group level, not just the individual members as separate entities. The recommended architecture is shown in detail, from basic ETL concepts to Big Data specific extensions.

The conference ended with a roundtable discussion, moderated by Matilda Bačelić, Lider magazine journalist. The discussion was attended by Mario Mrljić from Neos, Drazen Oreščanin from Poslovna Inteligencija, Alen Gojčeta, IBM Croatia, Stjepan Pavlek from Koios Consulting, Davorin Javor represented Ernst & Young and Krešimir Mlinarić from Adacta Group.
