14th HrOUG official results November, 2009

The official results from 14th HrOUG, held 13 – 17 October 2009 in Rovinj have arrived. 438 participants from 189 companies from Croatia and 15 other countries were accredited at the conference. A total of 107 presentations were held.

The poll results in which the participants evaluated the topic and presentation have shown us that the effort paid to preparation of presentations was worth while. In the Fusion Middleware group we won 2nd and 3rd places with “Experiences in BI system implementation with Hypo Leasing group” by Mario Mrljić (Neos), Damir Repo and Ivana Šušak (ZIS) and “ODI vs. OWB - comparison and experiences” by Dinko Barković and Zvonimir Hrkać (Neos).

It is also worth mentioning that Dražen Marković won 3rd place in shooting… we decided to tactically place the cup in the meeting room.

HrOUG 2009 – 14th meeting of Oracle users and partners October, 2009

After the Hidden Treasure award at the recent Oracle Partner Summit has given us tailwind, we have gladly returned to Istria for the 14th HrOUG conference, traditionally bringing together Oracle users and partners. This year we were also sponsors. This has given as a better opportunity than in earlier years to provide even more lectures and workshops to you, act as moderators and present you with news as exhibitors.

Mr. Zvonimir Hrkać held the lecture Practical Application of Oracle CDC from the BI &DW field and Mr. Dinko Barković spoke on the topic of ODI vs. OWB – Comparison and Experiences. In collaboration with Zajednički informacijski sustavi Mr. Mario Mrljić held the lecture titled Experiences in BI System Application with the HypoLeasing Group.

In collaboration with Mola Mola two lectures were held: by Mr. Davorin Capan regarding Java development using the WebLogic platform, titled Successful Legal Department/Legal Practice Management and by Mr. Tino Cindrić, titled ADF RC – New Functionalities.
The evenings were dedicated to entertainment, making of new and strengthening of old friendships.

Until next year, regards from Neos

This year's Oracle Partner Summit brought us an awardSeptember, 2009

This year we have also attended the Oracle Partner Summit, held on 29 and 30 September. The Partner Summit has from its beginnings been a mandatory activity in our fall schedule, as it brings together Oracle employees and partners in a relaxed environment and provides an opportunity for somewhat lighter business topics and some relaxation from the daily business routine.

This year’s Partner Summit was held in the inside Istria, in an idyllic setting, presenting us with a difficult choice between olive oil, wine and truffles. Once again – thank you Nives for good organisation and interesting itinerary.

However, we have been surprised with the award we received – Hidden Treasure, inspired by the Istrian white and black truffles. We may not be the best or the largest, but you clearly appreciate us and like working with us. Obviously our company’s focus – excellence in our fields of work and good cooperation with other companies – has brought good results and shows that we are on a good path. Or maybe – we just remind you of truffles :)

Niše project with the Zagrebačka bankaJuly, 2009

Following the successful pilot project, building of the reporting system, as part of the Niše project, with the started Zagrebačka banka.

The first stage of building 17 management summaries and reports for Niše started, including work on products and segments. The reports are intended for the controlling and management departments, for comparison of the business results realised by the bank in a certain period of time with the plan and results realised in the previous periods.

The reports use several sources, the most important one being the Oracle Essbase (part of the Hyperion portfolio), in which OLAP cubes have been prepared for this purpose, as well as the IBM DB2 database. In addition to creation of reports, the work also includes integration with the LDAP system for user authorisation and data display depending on their rights, i.e. belonging to specific organisation units.

The reports have been created with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.4.1 (OBI EE) tools, including Dashboards, Answers and BI Publisher products, all extensively used in the reporting system.

The pilot project was completed in collaboration with Combis d.o.o.

Pilot project with Zagrebačka bankaJuly, 2009

The pilot project for use of the OBI EE technology for the Niše reporting system was completed with Zagrebačka banka.

A short pilot project in duration of ca. 2 weeks was completed with Zagrebačka banka. The object was to prove that OBI EE provides for making of all required reports using the Oracle Essbase OLAP cubes and, to a lesser extent, the IBM DB2 database as its source. The pilot project included development of the multi-user environment and making of the test report, which included all important segments that will appear in the reporting system. The access and data display according to jobs were also tested.

The pilot project was successfully completed.

This pilot project and the main reporting project which will soon follow are done in collaboration with Combis d.o.o.

HNZ - informatization of business segments May, 2009

As part of modernisation of IT support to the business operation of Hrvatski novčarski zavod, the first stage included laying the basis for an integral information system, the ERP system. In addition to the basic system framework (modules, users, access rights etc.), a module has been set with the central master data that serves for other modules as the metadata central repository. This allows integration of all other modules. At this stage modules for material accounting and production of registration plates were introduced.

Since HNZ has the ISO 9000 certificate, the entire system allows traceability through all modules and segments of use, which adds to business quality. Contract execution for integration of other important business segments into the system represents a logical step in integration of the entire business into a modern ERP system. Business segments which will be covered with appropriate modules are as follows:

  • Retail– POS module (on-line and off-line), backup processing (with monitoring of the world commodity exchange for precious metals), retail dealerships, purchasing of precious metals
  • Web shop – B2C module for sale of specific HNZ products (medals, gold coins, silver coins etc.) that is on-line connected to the product catalogue and the corresponding warehouse
  • Accounting and finances – general ledger, automatic accounting entry module, invoices payable and receivable, payment transactions, cash register
  • B2B module – end of implementation of the B2B module for internet ordering and order tracking, which was completed in the previous stage within the registration plate production to which it currently refers

At this stage integration of the most important business segments into a uniform ERP system will be completed and that will constitute a significant business and organisation progress of HNZ as a modern company.

HYPO GROUP ALPE ADRIA - LEASING DW&BI May, 2009

Neos was selected as the best bidder for implementation of the reporting system for the leasing segment in the Hypo Alpe Adria Group.

Launching of the DW/BI project in the Hypo Alpe Adria Group is a logical answer to increase of the number of customers and services, which has resulted in the need for a more quality and timely reporting as basis for decision-making.

The primary project goal is establishing of the reporting system that provides for a more quality reporting with data regarding leasing operation, customer and supplier relations, financial data from the general ledger and timely access to various key performance indicators (KPI) and more complex user ad-hoc analyses.

The underlying system technology architecture is based on the Oracle database and Oracle Warehouse Builder tools with Neos OWB upgrade set.

PBZ - DW&BI - regulatory reporting May, 2009

As part of provision of consultancy and implementation services on development of data warehouse and a number of related DW projects - Neos consultants have facilitated successful automation in data preparation in compliance with the new Croatian National Bank requirements.

In the last year the Croatian National Bank defined new regulations in line with the latest EU standards, which includes collection of analytical data in form of structured databases instead of the old formatted reports. This new method of reporting is significantly larger in volume and demanding for preparation as it includes analytical data from the entire bank operation.

The role of the previously established data warehouse was critical for timely and quality data preparation in line with the new legislation. DW constitutes the basis for the entire regulatory reporting - MostV1 ("old" reporting system), MostV2 (record - basis for statistical reports) and Bona (additional records - monitoring reports).

In course of the project the data preparation process was automated on ten-day, monthly and quarterly basis for the bank's balance sheet items, customer data, due unpaid claims, further maturity schedule, interest rates, income and expenses, exposure and anything else that allows for complete insight and analysis of the indicators defined by the Croatian National Bank.

In this project Neos has provided services of regulatory requirements analysis, transformation definition and data mapping and technology implementation of data preparation with the Oracle Warehouse Builder tools.

In addition to the described project, Neos has continuously for more than 4 years now been providing consultancy services to PBZ relating to data warehouse analysis, design and implementation as answer to a variety of internal reporting requests, legislation requirements, Basel II regulations, risk management etc.
